PRESS RELEASE | OVER 5,400 PEOPLE SEND EMAILS TO HILARY BENN MP DEMANDING A PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO THE MURDER OF SEAN BROWN.
People-powered campaigning group Act Now, the Pat Finucane Centre and over 5,400 members of the public have called on the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Hilary Benn MP to set-up a public inquiry into the murder of Sean Brown.
In April the Court of Appeal ruled that the British government remains in contravention of Art 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights due to its failure to provide for an Article 2 compliant investigation.
The case is back in the Court of Appeal on Friday (2nd May). Bridie Brown, the wife of Sean Brown has been refused leave by the Supreme Court to intervene in a related case where similar concerns have been raised. However, the court granted approval to British government departments linked to several intelligence agencies.
Paul O’Connor, The Pat Finucane Centre said:
“We are now approaching 60 court appearances where the Brown family have sought to have their right to a proper investigation vindicated. The delays in this case, the cover-ups, the redacted documents all serve to increase suspicions about what is being hidden.”
Nicola Browne, Director at Act Now said:
“The response to this email action shows just how strongly people from all walks of life here feel about Bridie Brown and her family getting to the truth about her husband's murder. People are watching closely for Hillary Benn’s decision - and we hope, this time, that he does the right thing.”
